Clonium Review & Gameplay Guide
I just spent the last weekend playing Clonium, and I'm still trying to process my thoughts on this game. I went in with pretty high expectations, having seen some of the trailers and gameplay videos online, but I have to say that the actual experience was a bit of a mixed bag. The game's premise is pretty interesting - it's a sci-fi action game where you play as a character who's trying to stop an alien invasion from destroying the planet. Sounds cool, right? And for the most part, it is.
The gameplay in Clonium is fast-paced and action-packed, which I loved. The controls are responsive, and the combat mechanics are solid. I had a blast running around and shooting aliens, and the game does a great job of making you feel like a total boss. The graphics are also pretty impressive, with some really nice effects and environments. But as I got further into the game, I started to notice some issues. For one thing, the levels can get pretty repetitive - you're basically just running from one end of a corridor to the other, shooting everything in sight. It gets old after a while.
Another thing that bugged me was the story. I know I'm not exactly playing Clonium for its gripping narrative, but come on - the plot is basically non-existent. You get a few cutscenes at the beginning and end of the game, but other than that, you're just kind of... doing stuff. I never really felt like I had a clear goal or motivation, other than just trying to kill all the aliens. And the characters - oh man, the characters. They're all pretty one-dimensional and lack any real depth or development. I didn't really care about any of them, which made it hard to get invested in the story.
Despite these issues, I still had a pretty good time playing Clonium. Like I said, the gameplay is solid, and there are some really fun moments - like when you get to pilot a mech and just wreak havoc on the alien army. It's definitely a thrill ride, and I can see why some people would enjoy it. But if you're looking for a game with a strong narrative or complex characters, you might want to look elsewhere. Clonium is definitely more of a mindless action game, and it knows it.
One thing that's worth noting is that the game has a pretty active multiplayer community, which is something I didn't really expect. I hopped online and played a few matches with some friends, and it was actually a lot of fun. The multiplayer mode is basically just a bunch of different game types - like deathmatch and capture the flag - but with an alien invasion twist. It's a great way to extend the life of the game, and I can see myself playing it with friends for a while.
Overall, I'd say that Clonium is a decent but not outstanding game. It's got some great action sequences and solid gameplay, but it's lacking in the story and character department. If you're a fan of sci-fi action games and don't mind a more mindless experience, you might enjoy Clonium. But if you're looking for something with a bit more depth, you might want to look elsewhere. I'd say it's worth checking out if you can get it on sale or something, but otherwise, it's not a must-play by any stretch.
