Epicrolla Review & Gameplay Guide
I just spent the last 20 hours playing Epicrolla and I have to say, it's been a wild ride. I'd seen some of my friends playing it on stream and I was immediately drawn in by the colorful graphics and what seemed like a pretty unique gameplay mechanic. You play as this little creature that can roll around and jump, kind of like a cross between a hamster and a ninja. The goal is to navigate through these increasingly complex levels, collecting power-ups and coins while avoiding obstacles.
At first, I was a bit skeptical about the whole rolling thing, but it actually ended up being really fun. The controls are super responsive and it's pretty satisfying to just roll through a level, picking up speed and dodging enemies. The levels themselves are also really well designed, with a good mix of challenging jumps and sneaky hidden paths. I found myself getting more and more invested in the game as I progressed, trying to find the optimal route through each level and competing with myself to get the best time.
One thing that I was a bit disappointed by was the lack of a strong narrative. I mean, I wasn't really expecting some kind of deep, emotional story or anything, but it would have been nice to have a bit more context about what's going on in the world of Epicrolla. As it stands, it feels like you're just kind of... existing in this world, rolling around and collecting stuff without any real purpose or motivation. It's not a huge deal or anything, but it would have been nice to have a bit more to latch onto.
Despite that, I've still had a blast playing Epicrolla. The game has a really great sense of pacing, with new challenges and obstacles being introduced at just the right time to keep things feeling fresh and exciting. The power-ups are also really cool, and it's awesome to see how they can totally change the way you approach a level. For example, there's this one power-up that lets you stick to walls, which completely opens up new paths and possibilities. It's moments like those that really make the game feel special.
As I've progressed through the game, I've also started to notice some of the smaller details that the developers have included. Like, the way the lighting changes depending on the time of day, or the little animations that the enemies have. It's clear that a lot of care and attention went into crafting this world, and it really shows. Even the music is great, with this catchy, upbeat soundtrack that perfectly complements the on-screen action.
Overall, I'd definitely recommend Epicrolla to anyone looking for a fun, challenging platformer. It's not perfect, and there are definitely some areas where it could be improved, but it's a really great time and I'm excited to see where the developers take it from here. With a bit more attention to narrative and maybe some additional features, I could see Epicrolla becoming one of my favorite games of the year. As it stands, it's still a great option for anyone looking for a lighthearted, entertaining gaming experience.
