GlowFall Review & Gameplay Guide

I just spent the last 20 hours playing GlowFall and I'm still trying to process my thoughts on it. I went into this game with pretty high expectations, I'd seen some gameplay videos and read a few reviews, and I have to say it's been a bit of a mixed bag for me. The game is an action RPG with a unique art style, the whole world is basically made up of this glowing, neon-like substance that looks super cool. The combat is also really fun, it's fast-paced and you've got a bunch of different abilities to play around with.

One thing that really stood out to me was the game's world design. The levels are all pretty big and there's a lot to explore, I found myself spending hours just wandering around and finding new areas and secrets. The game also has a really cool soundtrack, it's all electronic and synth-heavy, which fits perfectly with the game's aesthetic. But, despite all these positives, I did start to feel like the game was getting a bit repetitive after a while. You're basically just running around, killing enemies and collecting loot, which is fine for a while, but it starts to feel like you're not really making any progress.

I also had some issues with the game's difficulty curve. At times, it felt like the game was way too easy, I was just steamrolling through levels without any trouble at all. But then, out of nowhere, I'd hit a boss fight or a tough section and it would be ridiculously hard. I'm not opposed to a challenge, but it felt like the game was just throwing these tough sections at me without any warning or preparation. It was a bit frustrating, to be honest. And, to make matters worse, the game's checkpoint system is a bit wonky, I found myself having to replay the same sections over and over again because the checkpoints weren't very frequent.

Despite all my complaints, I do think GlowFall is a good game. It's just not a great game, you know? It's got some really cool ideas and it looks and sounds amazing, but it's just missing that extra something to make it really stand out. I think if the developers had spent a bit more time balancing out the difficulty and adding more variety to the gameplay, this could have been a really special game. As it stands, it's just a solid, middle-of-the-road action RPG. If you're a fan of the genre, you'll probably enjoy it, but if you're looking for something that's really going to blow your mind, you might want to look elsewhere.

I'm also a bit disappointed that the game's story wasn't more fleshed out. I won't give away any spoilers, but basically you're just playing as this generic protagonist who's trying to save the world from some evil force. It's not a bad story, but it's just so generic and unoriginal. I felt like I'd seen it all before, and it didn't really add anything to the game. The characters are also pretty one-dimensional, I didn't really feel like I had any connection to them or their motivations. It's a shame, because I think the game's world and art style are really interesting, and a more compelling story could have really made the game stand out.

Overall, I'd say GlowFall is worth checking out if you're a fan of action RPGs. It's not perfect, but it's a solid game that's worth playing through. Just don't go in with super high expectations, and be prepared for a bit of repetition and frustration. With a bit more development and polish, this could have been a really great game, but as it stands, it's just a good one. I'm curious to see what the developers do next, maybe they'll take some of the criticisms of GlowFall and use them to make an even better game in the future.
