Truck Slam Review & Gameplay Guide
I just spent the last few hours playing Truck Slam and I'm still trying to process my thoughts on the game. I mean, it's not like I had super high expectations or anything, but at the same time, I was kind of hoping for a fun, mindless experience. And I guess that's what I got, for the most part. The game is basically just what it sounds like - you drive a truck and try to slam into other cars to earn points. It's simple, but it can be kind of enjoyable in short bursts.
The thing that really gets me about Truck Slam is how repetitive it is. I mean, I've played games that feel repetitive before, but this one takes the cake. You drive around, slam into some cars, earn some points, and then... you just keep doing that. Over and over and over again. There's no real sense of progression or anything to work towards, other than just trying to beat your high score. And even that gets old after a while. I found myself just going through the motions, trying to get to a certain score just so I could say I did it, but not really feeling like I was accomplishing anything.
The graphics and sound design in Truck Slam are pretty subpar, to be honest. The trucks and cars all look kind of blocky and low-res, and the sound effects are just a bunch of generic crunching and crashing noises. It's not like it's trying to be a super realistic game or anything, but at the same time, it would be nice if it at least looked and sounded a little more polished. I did notice that the game runs pretty smoothly, though, which is a plus. I didn't experience any real framerate issues or anything like that, so that's a good thing.
Despite all my complaints, I have to admit that Truck Slam can be kind of fun in short doses. Like I said, it's mindless and easy to pick up and play, and sometimes that's just what you're in the mood for. I wouldn't recommend playing it for hours on end or anything, but if you just want to play something for 15 or 20 minutes to kill some time, Truck Slam might not be the worst choice. And hey, it's not like it's trying to be a super serious game or anything - it's just a silly, over-the-top experience, and if you can appreciate that, you might get some enjoyment out of it.
One thing that I do wish Truck Slam had was some kind of multiplayer mode. I think that could really add some replay value to the game, and make it more interesting to play with friends. As it is, it's just a single-player experience, and that gets old pretty quickly. I'm not saying that multiplayer would totally save the game or anything, but it would definitely be a step in the right direction. And who knows, maybe the developers will add something like that in a future update.
Overall, I'd say that Truck Slam is a decent but not great game. It's not really something that I'd recommend to anyone, but at the same time, it's not like it's a total waste of time either. If you're just looking for something to play for a few minutes, and you don't have anything else to play, you might get some enjoyment out of Truck Slam. But if you're looking for a game that's going to keep you engaged for hours on end, you're probably better off looking elsewhere.
