Wool Sort: Yarn Color Puzzle Review & Gameplay Guide
I just spent the last hour playing Wool Sort: Yarn Color Puzzle, and I'm not really sure what to make of it. On the one hand, the game is super relaxing and the visuals are actually really nice - the yarn balls are all colorful and fluffy, and the backgrounds are these nice, calming textures. But on the other hand, the gameplay is just so... repetitive. You're basically just sorting different colored yarn balls into their corresponding baskets, and that's it. I mean, I know it's a puzzle game and all, but I was expecting a bit more depth than that.
As I played through the levels, I started to notice that the game does get progressively harder, which is good. The yarn balls start moving faster, and there are more colors to keep track of, so you have to think on your feet and make quick decisions. But even with the increased difficulty, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was just doing the same thing over and over again. I mean, I've played games like Candy Crush and Bejeweled before, and those games have a similar feel to them, but at least they have power-ups and special moves to mix things up a bit. Wool Sort just feels really straightforward and simple.
One thing I did like about the game was the sound design. The sound effects are all these nice, soft clicks and whooshes, and the music is this calming, acoustic guitar thing that just puts you at ease. It's really nice to play a game that doesn't have some annoying, pulsing electronic soundtrack blasting in your ears the whole time. And like I said, the visuals are really nice too - the game has a really cozy, homespun feel to it, which I think is part of its charm.
But even with the nice sound design and visuals, I'm not sure if I would recommend Wool Sort to anyone but the most hardcore puzzle fans. I mean, if you're the kind of person who loves games like Tetris or Dr. Mario, you might really enjoy this one. But if you're looking for something with a bit more action or excitement, you might want to look elsewhere. The game just feels really low-key and laid-back, which can be nice in short bursts, but it's not really something I could play for hours on end.
As I kept playing, I started to notice that the game does have some level goals and achievements, which is nice. You can earn stars for completing levels quickly, and there are these little badges you can collect for achieving certain milestones. It's not a lot, but it's enough to give you something to work towards, and it does add a bit of replay value to the game. But even with the level goals and achievements, I'm not sure if I'll be playing Wool Sort again anytime soon. It's just one of those games that feels really forgettable, you know?
Overall, I'd say Wool Sort: Yarn Color Puzzle is a decent but not spectacular game. If you're in the mood for something relaxing and low-key, you might enjoy it, but if you're looking for something with a bit more excitement or challenge, you might want to look elsewhere. It's not a bad game by any means, it's just... meh. I'd say it's worth checking out if you're a fan of puzzle games, but it's not something I'd go out of my way to recommend to anyone.
